The installer for ProcessMaker version 3.0.1.8 requires PHP version 5.5.33 or higher, because the developers were concerned that previous versions of PHP have security holes. The code for PM 3.0.1.8 can be run in PHP 5.4.0 - 5.5.32, but it hasn't been tested by the PM Quality Assurance Team. Depending on your use of ProcessMaker, the known security holes in PHP 5.4.0 to 5.5.32 may not pose significant risks, especially if being used in a private network. See:
http://www.cvedetails.com/product/128/P ... ndor_id=74

No major Linux distributions currently have PHP 5.5.33 or 5.5.34, which are the recommended PHP versions for PM 3.0.1.8 and it hasn't been tested with PHP 5.6.X. If using Red Hat Enterprise Linux/CentOS 6 or 7, there are official Red Hat repositories to install PHP 5.5.34. If using Ubuntu, you might be able to find an unofficial repository which has PHP 5.5.34. For Debian 7 and 8, there is no easy way to install PHP 5.5.34, except compile it yourself.

If you wish to install ProcessMaker on a server running PHP 5.4.0 to 5.5.32, then download and uncompress the ProcessMaker 3.0.1.8 tarball. In Windows you can use a standard decompression program such as 7-Zip or WinRAR. In Linux/UNIX, login as root (or use sudo) and issue the following command:
tar -C /opt -xzvf processmaker-3.0.1.8-community.tar.gz

Then, edit the file processmaker/workflow/engine/controllers/installer.php with a plain text editor and change line 133 from:
Code: Select all
        $info->php->result = version_compare(phpversion(), '5.5.33') >= 0 ? true : false;
To:
Code: Select all
        $info->php->result = version_compare(phpversion(), '5.4.0') >= 0 ? true : false;
ProcessMaker officially requires a PHP memory_limit of 256 MB or greater, but that amount of memory is not necessary for most uses of ProcessMaker. If wishing to decrease the memory_limit, then change line 217 from:
Code: Select all
        if ($memory > 255) {
To:
Code: Select all
        if ($memory > 127) {
Then, follow the normal installation procedure to install ProcessMaker.

Remember that ProcessMaker officially recommends using PHP 5.5.33 or 5.5.34, so use previous versions of PHP at your own risk. The security risks of using PM 3.0.1.8 with PHP 5.4.0 - 5.5.32 are the same as using previous versions of ProcessMaker with PHP 5.4.0 - 5.5.32.
