Grateful if I can be advised how groups, departments and sub-departments can be created by triggers or PMF functions.
Furthermore, how can users and managers be assigned to departments / sub-departments by triggers or PMF functions.

I'm using PM 3.2.1 community version.

Hi,
You can open process designer and click on triggers menu on sidebar, then click on wizard and then click on "ProcessMaker Functions".
In this path you can see a list of all internal functions that you can use in your triggers and with click any row of this list how to call the function is displayed for you.
